COLLEGE READINESS TOOLKIT
During the month of October, you should have received information regarding the Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium offering all Tech Prep juniors the opportunity to take the A+dvancer College Readiness diagnostic exam. Exams are available in the following areas:
- Arithmetic
- Elementary Algebra
- Reading Comprehension
- Sentence Skills
These exams can be taken outside of class and are not required to be completed in one session. Students may login and complete as much of an exam as they have time for, then logout and resume at another time. Once the exam is complete, students will receive a report listing areas they have mastered and areas they need assistance in. Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium does not offer the self-learning companion associated with A+dvancer exams, but MVTPC does have several resources available in the toolbox on our website at www.mvtechprep.org/resources/collegetoolkit/.
Please keep in mind the following when deciding if juniors should take the A+dvancer exam:
- No cost to the student or school; Miami Valley Tech Prep will pick up the cost
- More than a third of all students enrolling into college enroll into remedial courses (42% of first year students entering two-year colleges)
- Students who begin college in remedial courses are less likely to persist and graduate
- The Sinclair Tech Prep Scholarship does not cover developmental courses.
- Testing is available 24/7 online, and students can test anytime, from any location with Internet access.
If you are interested in having your students take the A+dvancer College Readiness diagnostic exam or if you have any questions, please email Julie Wheeler at julie.wheeler@sinclair.edu or call at (937) 512-2406.
