MVTPC transmittal forms will be arriving no later than February 28 to your school. The Tech Prep office must receive and approve the electronic transmittal forms from the Tech Prep coordinator by March 13, 2009, prior to printing a hard copy for signatures. Upon approval, submit an original hard copy of the transmittal form(s) signed by the Tech Prep coordinator, high school counselor, and principal. Do not FAX this to us. Kettering-Fairmont Allied Health Tech Prep Students Raise Money for Charity
Allied Health students are raising money for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society as a part of their Senior Capstone Project. Shannon McNulty and Chelsey St. Clair are researching the diagnosis and treatment of Leukemia/Lymphoma and how the process effects families. While researching for their project, the empathy they felt for Leukemia patients encouraged them to find a way to help. They decided that the children with Leukemia needed to have their stories heard. As a result they asked the Leukemia/Lyphoma Society to ask selected patients, who are cancer survivors or who are still fighting the deadly disease, to create Holiday artwork which they featured in Holiday cards along with a story about the patient. The cards featured Leukemia patients ages 4 through 15. Shannon and Chelsey created messages for the cards, wrote a short commentary about the patient, had the cards printed and then sold them to family and friends. It was a great way to remind others of the blessings that they have through touching cards and holiday messages. Shannon and Chelsey are continuing their effort to raise money and awareness by creating donation boxes for schools and business. Both the students felt the project helped them apply some of the life lessons learned in their class and has made their senior year more memorable.

MVCTC Financial Management Program Highlights Sinclair PROFESSOR
Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Financial Management students were recently visited by Mr. Rick Andrews from Sinclair Community College. Mr. Andrews, the Economic and Finance Department Chair from Sinclair (in partnership with the Miami valley Tech Prep Consortium), assisted the MVCTC students in preparing for their third exam in the Accounting 121 class they are taking as part of their career technical lab. The senior students are able to take the Sinclair class as part of their lab and have the opportunity to earn five college credit hours while still in high school. This is a wonderful opportunity for high school students to earn college credit and to get a head start towards their post-secondary education. Carrie Wiant, MVCTC Financial Management instructor, says of Mr. Andrews, “He does a great job teaching the students in a different way. The students are excited when he comes and he is able to answer any questions that they have related to the course material. The greatest advantage of this partnership with Sinclair Community College is that high school students can earn five accounting credit hours before they graduate from high school.”
