PROGRAM APPLICATIONS FOR FY11 ARE DUE JUNE 1, 2010
The Ohio Department of Education’s Office of Career Technical Education has announced the FY11 Program application package is now available on the ODE website. Applications are due June 1, 2010. Following last year’s practice, MVTPC will post the post-secondary portion of the POS, along with instructions, on www.mvtechprep.org by March 31, 2010.
NEW TECH PREP PROGRAMS, 2010-2011
More Tech Prep options for students - that’s the goal of the late winter/spring work of the consortium. High school and college faculty members will soon work together to develop new pathways and to take a fresh look at some existing pathways. Curriculum work will get underway shortly in the following programs:
New Pathways - Conversions to Tech Prep
Precision machining
Electronics
Robotics
Welding
Existing Pathways - Curriculum Review
Technical Theater
PALS (Procurement, Acquisitions, Logistics, Supply Chain Management)
Government and Public Administration

UP-COMING STATEWIDE EVENTS OF NOTE
MVTPC would like to inform all of our partners about an opportunity for professional women in Ohio. The MOMENTUM 2010 Summit is sponsored by the Governor’s Office for Women Initiatives and Outreach. You can find out more about this office here.
What: Momentum 2010 Summit, for adult women
- Where: Columbus
- When: Monday, March 8, 2010 International Women’s Day
- What: A focus on strengthening our families and communities by promoting the advancement of women through education, economics and health.
- How to register: Please clink the link to read details and agenda for the Summit at http://www.ohiowomen2010.org Early registration received by Feb. 4 is only $25. After that date the fee is $45. Fill out the registration form.
In addition, the Sunday prior to the Women’s Summit, there is a Young Women’s Summit.
- What: Young Women’s Summit for girls ages 12-18
- Where: Columbus, Ohio at the Columbus School For Girls
- When: Sunday, March 7
- What: You can review a short video and register at www.ohiowomen2010.org
- How to Register: Registration fee is $5 which covers the cost of their lunch.
The hope is to have approximately 400 girls from all over the state attend this event. The goal is to connect with girls who would otherwise not consider education as a future option for them. The agenda is full of information to help our girls understand the value of education and how they can access education. The group has reserved a seat for a representative from each of our 23 Tech Prep consortia across the state.
OHIO IT CHALLENGE
Are you interested in providing students in your information technology program with an opportunity to:
- Demonstrate their technical skills?
- Practice for IT certification exams?
- Compete with other IT students from Ohio?
- Compete for prizes and awards?
- Do all of the above with NO REGISTRATION FEE?
If you answered yes, then participate in the upcoming Ohio IT Challenge!
The Challenge will be held at Sinclair Community College campus in Dayton. Students will compete by taking up to two on-line exams from tests (similar to CompTIA A+ Essentials, CompTIA A+ IT Technician, CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft MCP) using the Transcender testing software. Contact Bob Sheehan for more information. The deadline for registration is March 1st.
