Distinguished Business Partners to be Recognized January 17
Thirteen Miami Valley area business and community volunteers are recipients of the MVTPC’s 2007-08 Distinguished Business Partners Award for their leadership and efforts in supporting Tech Prep programs. The volunteers, selected by Miami Valley area high schools and career centers, will be recognized during an awards ceremony at the consortium’s January 17 Executive Session Luncheon from 11:30 am till 1:00 pm in Charity E. Earley Auditorium, Building 12 at Sinclair Community College. The Executive Session Luncheons are free and open to all Miami Valley area education, business and community stakeholders. On-Line Registration for 2007-08 Tech Prep “Showcase” Now Available
Tech Prep teams may register on-line again this year for the annual Miami Valley Tech Prep “Showcase” competition on Friday, February 22 at Sinclair Community College. Registration is at the MVTPC homepage at www.mvtechprep.org. This year’s registration deadline is Friday, January 25. The “Showcase,” now in its 11th year, provides an opportunity for tech prep high school students to demonstrate technical and academic skills through team projects that are judged by business and industry volunteers. Winning and runner up teams within each of the consortium’s thirteen tech prep pathways will be recognized, along with their teachers, at a special awards ceremony on April 24. “Early College Connection” Events to be Held Throughout February
Tenth grade students, along with parents or guardians, who have expressed interest in enrolling next year in a tech prep program at their local high school or career center will be receiving invitations to a series of special information sessions throughout February. The sessions, titled “Early College Connections,” will provide students and family members an opportunity to obtain additional information about the connection between the specific tech prep program they are considering and Sinclair Community College. Four evening sessions will be held on Sinclair’s main campus in Dayton and an additional session will be held on Sinclair’s Courseview Campus Center in Mason. Reservations are required. 2008-09 Tech Prep Site Expansion Notification Deadline is January 15
Notification by MVTPC secondary partners for tech prep site expansions for the 2008-09 school year are due in the consortium office no later than January 15. Due to additional new filing requirements and documentation, notifications received after that date may not allow sufficient time for processing to meet Ohio Department of Education deadlines for filing by consortium directors.
