New Tech Prep Programs for 2010 – 2011
Over the past spring, the Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium has worked with its secondary career technical education partners to submit 47 new and 13 revised CTE-26’s and Programs of Study for the up-coming 2010-11 academic year. These new and revised programs represent the largest one-year program growth in MVTPC history. Thank you to all our partners in helping make “Tech Prep for All” a reality. These programs fall in to the following three classifications:
- 15 programs are classified as new pathways in Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, Manufacturing (includes Precision Machining & Welding) and Media Arts.
- These new programs will trigger new articulation agreements and new programs of study.
- 32 programs are classified as site expansions which feed into existing pathways or satellites
- These programs will run off of existing articulation agreements and programs of study.
- 13 programs are submitting program applications due to changes in Ohio Department of Education’s EMIS codes and/or IRN’s within the school district.
You’re Invited to Lunch!
Teachers, would you like to learn more about Tech Prep? Summer is a great time for you to visit the Tech Prep office, meet with your pathway manager or other members of the staff, and get answers to all your questions. New teachers, experienced teachers new to Tech Prep, or teachers in schools that are many miles from Sinclair might find a visit very helpful; but everyone is invited to schedule an individual meeting time during June or July. Lunch and parking are on us. Please contact Linda York at 512-5146, and she will help plan your visit.
Tech Prep Proficiency Testing – A Win-Win!
This school year alone in the Health Sciences the Tech Prep students realized through proficiency tests 2356 college credits which equate to $60 a credit ($60 an average of - in county & out of county tuition) for a grand total of $ 141,360. This is just the Health Sciences and does not count all the Business, Engineering, Construction and the other MVTPC pathways. Certainly the monetary savings is major but also the experience of attempting a college course without penalty and gaining knowledge that will be so helpful when the course is taken in the first few quarters/semesters of college life is immeasurable. Certainly there are bumps in the road to any on-line program process, especially the first time attempt. The pay off in experience and knowledge will prove to be invaluable as on-line education becomes the wave of the future. Our Tech Prep students are “Front and Center.”
Attention Allied Health Teachers
Soon after school begins next fall the MVTPC Allied Health Pathway Manager will visit your senior classroom and request that the seniors put their name on the dotted line with 2 Life & Health Sciences program choices. These program choices will be engraved in stone and will be the program options open to those students transitioning to Sinclair. Please begin the year with a review of the career options available at Sinclair and ask that a discussion take place between the student and parent/guardian before October sign up date.
Paid Political Announcement:
As I bow out of the Tech Prep Manager’s position, I would like to thank all the many professionals who have contributed to the success of the MVTPC programs and the students who populated these programs during the past nine years. We have certainly grown in quantity and quality as we annually create a smooth transition from secondary to post high school educational experiences. Our students gain a taste of the real workplace in our classes as they receive instruction that blends the academic and the hands on skills necessary for success in today’s world. I have appreciated your cooperation as a partner in the task of creating an infrastructure for integrated career instruction that is second to none in the state and for that matter in the nation. The MVTPC/Sinclair program has been and will continue to be a leader in relevant programming to meet the challenge of the changing work environment. I look forward to learning of your continued and growing success as the years pass and the quality continues to improve. Good Luck. I have enjoyed being your engaged partner. Thank you.
– Dave McDaniel.
