TECH PREP STUDENTS REGISTER FOR MATH PROFICIENCY EXAMS
Over six hundred MVTPC high school tech prep students have registered to sit this spring for the on-line proficiency examination for Sinclair Community College’s MAT101 course (elementary college algebra). Students who pass the proficiency with a letter grade of “C” or higher receive four transcripted credits at no cost. The on-line exam is accompanied by a series of five on-line practice tests which students may access in preparation for the actual proficiency examination. The on-line exam and practice tests were developed and piloted last year by MVTPC under a special grant from the Ohio Department of Education, Division of Career-Technical and Adult Education. For additional information about the on-line proficiency, contact Dave McDaniel.
SUMMER MATH “BRIDGE” COURSE PLANNING MOVING FORWARD
Representatives from MVTPC high schools and career centers have been jointly planning and developing strategies for a math summer bridge program to be piloted in June. The program is designed for 10th and 11th grade students who are in need of developmental course work in order to qualify for the Algebra I readiness required for full admission status as a tech prep student. As planning is finalized, district contacts will receive application guidelines, dates and qualifications for the program which will be held on the main campus of Sinclair Community College. There is no charge to participating students. For additional information, contact Nick Wilson.
