!! IMPORTANT INFORMATION - MEETINGS SCHEDULED !!
With the onset of the semester system at Sinclair Community College, there are many program/course changes which will affect many Tech Prep programs. To aid in preparing our teachers for the 2012-2013 school year, we elected to move our annual Summits to the spring of the school year, beginning May 2012.
An aggressive schedule of meetings has been developed for all pathways to inform our high school colleagues of key changes in course content and assessment practices, especially. Where available, course syllabi will be provided and any information available regarding texts used in the course. Many Sinclair faculty are also providing access to their Angel Shell instructional/assessment materials to support OUR classroom efforts.
Therefore, it is VERY important that all pathway teachers attend their respective summit!! We KNOW that it is a busy time of year, but want to provide you with good information with ample time to factor it into your plans for 2012-2013.
We hope to see each and every one of you at your respective summit!
College Readiness Workshop
The MVTPC and Southwest Ohio Tech Prep Region are hosting a free College Readiness Conference: “Bridging the Expectation Gap” on June 11 at Sinclair. This one day conference features national and regional leaders involved in the critical issue of helping high school graduates become college and career ready.
Dr. Abbey Zink of Western Connecticut University will kick off the conference presenting “Building a Bridge to Improve Student Success”, a highly acclaimed college/high school partnership that has significantly improved college readiness. In addition, there are 15 breakout sessions on various facets of college readiness including the new state PARCC assessments coming in 2014, the new Common Core Standards, and a school wide readiness program from the University of Minnesota called “Ramp-up to Readiness.” Registration, lunch, and parking are free. Scholarship and Non-scholarship packets for 2012 graduating seniors are being prepared and shipped out/picked up everyday.
Please thank Jammie Schneider, Linda York, Ellen Snyder and Christine Stein for working very hard preparing the scholarship packets for your graduating seniors!
As of right now 2527 students have received the Tech Prep Scholarship. An increase of over 200 students compared to last year!

SINCLAIR TECH PREP SHOWCASE
On April 19, 2012 128 teams composing of 435 students from 29 area high schools and Career Tech Centers ascended upon the Great Hall in Building 12 of Sinclair Community College to participate into he 2012 Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium Tech Prep Showcase.
Students from all pathways came to present their capstone projects to 72 judges from various area businesses and corporations. There were two winners from the public based vote for Best in Show:
Dayton Public Schools, Ponitz Career Tech Center: Manufacturing - David Andrews - "Motorized Bar Stool"
Centerville High School: Exercise Science - Maria Whitaker - "Wear the Vibram Feel the Difference"

Accuplacer Testing
As part of the High School & Higher Education Curriculum Initiative Alignment Grant Tim Bryant, the Data Tech from the Tech Prep Office, has been visiting 8 area High Schools testing Juniors and Seniors for Accuplacer Placement Testing. When all is said and done some 1300+ area High School students will have been tested this Spring.
