ON-LINE PROFICIENCY PILOT COMPLETED
Nearly 600 MVTPC tech prep high school students at five partner sites sat for on-line Sinclair proficiency examinations in May as part of a pilot project funded by an Ohio Department of Education “Replicable Model” grant. Under the project, MVTPC staff worked with secondary and postsecondary faculty to design and program on-line proficiency examinations for MAT101 and BIO107. Five on-line practice exams for each proficiency were also developed. On-line availability of these and other Sinclair proficiency exams will maximize access to college credit by proficiency exam for MVTPC tech prep students, effective in the 07-08 school year. Special thanks goes to the teachers and students at the pilot sites and to Sinclair faculty for their participation. The pilot sites were: Centerville High School, Dayton Public Schools, Kettering-Fairmont High School, Miami Valley Career Technology Center and Walter E. Stebbins High School. For more information contact Dave McDaniel.
Engineering Technologies Senior Information Night Held
MVTPC's first engineering technologies senior information night on May 2 drew 52 engineering technologies Tech Prep high school grads and parents. During the evening meeting, held on Sinclair's campus, MVTPC staff and Sinclair faculty made presentations on the various programs of study in the Engineering and Industrial Technologies Division, answered questions and met individually with students and parents to help smooth the transition from high school to college. The event was very successful and will be offered again next spring, along with similar information nights for each of the consortium's pathways.
