LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER FOR PROFICIENCY TESTING

Friday, December 17 is the last day to register for proficiency testing.

Teachers may sign-up for testing by clicking on this link and following the directions to select which course(s) and term(s) they would like to have their students test.

If teachers have any questions concerning proficiency testing please have them contact Julie Clauss-Wheeler at (937) 512-2406.

UPDATE ON MATH 101

We’re making an important change to Math 101 for Tech Prep students, one that we believe will improve both student learning and student success in the class. Our goal is to increase both the number and percentage of students who earn credit for Math 101.

This year, high school students will take two midterms and a final to earn credit for Math 101, instead of a single final exam as in years past. This new structure is closer to the experience of students who take Math 101 on Sinclair campus. Details on the new testing:

  • 2 Midterm Exams – Midterm #1 covers the material on tests 1 and 2 in the syllabus. Midterm #2 covers the material on tests 3 and 4. The final is comprehensive and covers all course material.

  • Timing of the Exams – The timing of the midterms and the final is up to the high school math teacher.

  • Accessing the Exams – As in the past, the exams are in the Math 101 Angel shell for your school. Contact Julie Clauss-Wheeler to get your students signed up by December 17 for testing during the 2010-2011 year. Then you can access tests by contacting Tom Whitehead.

  • Practice Tests – The practice tests are in the Angel shell. Please use them for instructional purposes and encourage the students to use them for study.

  • Weight of grades – Each mid-term will account for 30% of the student’s final grade. The comprehensive final accounts for 40% of the final grade.

For questions, please contact Beverly Smith at (937) 512-2198.

IMPORTANT C-TAG UP-DATE FOR TECH PREP TEACHING PROFESSIONS PROGRAMS

On October 4th, the Ohio Board of Regents released new standards and procedures for secondary Tech Prep Teacher Academies. These programs need to submit materials for approval as a statewide C-TAG (ORC 3333.162) and students must receive a score of 85 on their webxam portfolio review. MVTPC will be retiring all Tech Prep articulation agreements where Sinclair’s EDU 100 – “Foundation of Education” is listed. However, students enrolled in these programs at the start of the 2010 – 2011 school year will be considered “in the pipeline” and may earn credit as before. In preparation for raising the portfolio score to 85, MVTPC Teacher Academies' instructors agreed to raise the portfolio score from 67 to 72 for this year.

Attached are the links to OBR’s website that will guide schools through the Education C-TAG submission process.

Link 1 - Education C-TAG learning outcomes

Link 2 - How to Submit Education C-TAG

Use the four links under “Tech Prep programs” to guide you through this process. There is a syllabus/course of study template which details exactly what must be included in your submission into OBR’s Course Equivalency Management System (CEMS). Dr. Stephanie McCann at the OBR will be heading up the validation center for the Education C-TAG. Dr. McCann can be reached at smccann@regents.state.oh.us or at 614.728.8860

Once a district’s materials are submitted and approved, students who receive a portfolio score of 85 will have the statewide C-TAG credit guarantee for Foundations of Education at any state-supported university. Students who pass the portfolio with scores below 85 still receive secondary CTE credit and are eligible to be counted as Tech Prep completers.

2010 Showcase

And coming soon...

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST DAY OF THE YEAR?

April 13, 2011 is Tech Prep Showcase Day at Sinclair, and it’s the biggest day of the year for Tech Prep students! Presenting at The Showcase is the culmination of each team’s hard work and preparation, a day for each program’s stars to shine.

Each Tech Prep program in the Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium is invited to send one team to Showcase this year. The team may be a senior team, a junior team, or a combined junior/senior team.

The deadline to register for the Showcase is March 11, 2011. The written narrative is due on March 28, and the Showcase is two weeks later on Wednesday, April 13. Watch for more information in January.
