"Governor Robert Taft has challenged Ohio College Tech Prep to enroll 35,000 students to meet Ohio's high skill, high wage technical needs. This target represents 15% of all 11th and 12th grade students.
During the first 10 years, College Tech Prep has focused on creating curricula and increasing high school enrollment. As a result, 71% of College Tech Prep enrollment growth has been at the secondary level. While progress has been made, more work and new strategies are necessary to increase access and create additional pathways to meet this goal. The FY04-05 New Visioning Implementation Grants are designed to stimulate new delivery systems to increase student access and College Tech Prep program success.
The MEtaMorph Ninth Grade Career Exploration Guarantee model which has been developed by the Miami Valley has already shown great strides in meeting the grant goals. This program focuses on closing the career guidance gap of ninth graders from nine area schools in the urban and suburban Miami Valley. Innovative features include a series of web based career-related activities to be delivered in the ninth grade English class. These activities, developed with English teachers, career guidance professionals and curriculum specialists, will focus on the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) and English language arts standards of research, reading application and writing applications."
