"The Miami Valley's College Tech Prep Consortium New Visioning Grant has been a ground breaking effort to provide meaningful and academically enhanced career-based activities to ninth grade students in the Dayton area. These grants focused on the transformation of the P-16 continuum by providing new and expanded delivery options, along stronger articulation.
The direct benefits of the consortium's MEtaMorph Ninth Grade Career Exploration are two-fold: 1. Career exploration activities take place in an academic setting, in this case English Language Arts, which also prepares them for the Ohio Graduation Test. 2. By placing additional emphasis on academics, these students should require significantly less remediation when they enter college.
These efforts further compliment the statewide work with the Transfer Assurance Guides (TAGs) that outline 38 career pathways. These pathways identify to students what courses will transfer and apply to a given major at any public college or university in Ohio. By having students begin to critically think early on about their career choices, it will assist them, and their counselors, in identifying what coursework is needed to enter a college or university prepared for their major."
