Lesson 4: High School Options
Mapping Your Trip
Activity 1 – High School
Choices
Many opportunities outside of your high school could also help
you achieve your career goals. In this part of the lesson, you
will become familiar with some of these options.
Choose one group of high school options and explore one of the following options by
answering the questions found on the corresponding assignment
sheets. You'll need a computer to do some of this work. Keep
in mind that your group will be doing a short presentation to
the class to share what you've learned. Your presentation should
include a visual aid which highlights the most important points
you've discovered. Be sure to include what the program is, the
requirements for participation and the advantages/disadvantages
of the program. You'll also need your journal for a response
to the presentations.
- College Tech Prep
- Career Center Programs
- Post Secondary Options
- Online/Distance Learning Opportunities
- Summer Academic Enrichment Program
- Advanced Placement Courses
- Take
notes on each presentation and evaluate the programs in
relation to your personal career goals. Indicate why you would
or would not want to choose each program. Place the notes in
your Career Journal.
- Another option for some students is open
enrollment. Take a moment to read about it.
- Then complete
the assignment.
