Title: Living Expenses - Can You Afford to Live on Your Own?

Teachers: Jackson, Jones

Business: Habitat for Humanity

Description: Teenagers are often tempted with the concept of living on their own, making their own rules, and working versus going to school. Most of them have no idea how much money it takes for them to be able to live independently and support themselves. Some students don't understand the value of education and how it relates to the amount of money they can expect to earn. The goal of this unit is to show the students a realistic picture of living expenses and to teach them how to make the most of their money and time. In addition, students will learn about Habitat for Humanity and the importance of volunteering. Lastly, the students will organize and implement a fundraising activity for Habitat for Humanity. This unit is appropriate for any student in 7 th -12 th grade.

Subjects: English, Careers, Social Studies

Grade Level: 7-12
