Tech Prep Focus for 2011 – 2012: Curriculum
Next year is the year to get ready for change at Sinclair and for Tech Prep. The 2011 – 2012 school year will be Sinclair’s final year on quarters, as well as the year for Tech Prep teachers to learn about new challenges and opportunities in early college credit.
The work of the Tech Prep office will be focused on curriculum – keeping teachers informed about the coming changes, working to determine the best courses for early college credit, and helping teachers prepare for the change. We hope to see everyone at the fall summits, so that all teachers can be learn about and have input into these changing opportunities for students.

TEAM OF SENIORS WINS U.S. EVENT
Last month, an information technology team from Centerville High School won a national Business Professionals of America competition in Washington, D.C.
“This also is the first team that we’ve had win at nationals,” said James Miller, the students’ IT teacher.
Also at the competition, the Networking Design Team from CHS took fourth place.
“Having two teams in the top 10 was pretty special,” Miller said.

RIDING OFF INTO THE SUNSET
Well colleagues, this is my last “MVTPC Minute” as my retirement date is drawing nigh and come June 30th I will be starting a new phase in life. Strangely, it doesn’t seem all that long ago I was packing off to begin my freshman year at Miami University way back in 1974. I have been fortunate enough to have taught and worked in a multitude of educational settings; K-12 public schools, community colleges and universities, and at the state level. All of which have been great experiences. However, being associated with Tech Prep these past 10+ years and been the most rewarding and meaningful in that I know Tech Prep has made a lasting difference for the positive in the lives of so many students.
Finally, having the opportunity to lead the Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium and be a part of Sinclair Community College has been the culminating points of my career. I thank each and every one of you that have been a part of all of these efforts. None of this great work could have been accomplished without your professional dedication, drive and passion.
