NEW TECH PREP PROGRAMS

We are pleased to announce that we will be adding two new Tech Prep Programs to the vast array of career programs supported by the MVTPC throughout the region.  We anticipate offering a Vet Tech Prep program for the 2012-2013 school year.  The Vet Tech Prep program will be an associate degree program.  Susan Mullay will be the Sinclair chair charged with the development and oversight of this new opportunity.

It is important to note that a program like this must be in place for one year before it is accredited by the Ohio Board of Regents.  Students entering the program on the Fall of 2012 will not be eligible to sit for their Vet Tech Certification until the program is accredited -meaning that we have one class ready to graduate.  At this point, accreditation will be back dated to include those graduates.

Available to students in Environmental Science, Engineering, Construction and Biotech programs are the new Energy Technology certificate and Energy Management degree programs.  These new programs broaden the opportunities for students in the four career pathways/programs who choose to matriculate to Sinclair College upon graduation from high school.

For more information, please contact the Engineering Technology Design Department at 512-2183.

Transitioning career-technical programs to tech prep

This year, we will be assisting high schools in transitioning all Career-Technical Work Force Development Programs to Tech Prep Programs of Study as required by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE).  The purpose of the Program of Study (POS) is to show sequenced academic and technical integration, secondary and post-secondary connections and the connections with Business and Industry.

One electronic Program Application for each Career-Technical Work Force Development program will achieve this goal by illustrating the sequenced (required and elective) academic and technical coursework, grades 9-14.  Once the collective document is signed and submitted to ODE, the CTPD Superintendent, District Superintendent, and College President are assuring the collaborative effort in the development of the POS, which included articulated and/or dual credit and appropriate industry credential opportunities.

All Career-Technical Work Force Development Programs including current Tech Prep programs must be submitted to ODE on the approved Program Application form by 2014.

The Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium will be working with high school and career center partners to achieve this goal over the 2011-2012 school year.

SINCLAIR RECEIVES GRANT

Sinclair College is a major partner in a National Center for Supply Chain Technology $3.5 million, four-year grant awarded by the National Science Foundation to Riverside Community College (Norco, California) on August 30, 2011.  The center will implement a 2+2+2 supply chain career program/pathway through high school, community college and university partnerships across the United States to meet this industry’s need for educated technicians.  Sinclair College will receive a sub-award of $950, 000 over a four-year period to support initiatives in the region, especially southwest Ohio.

The goal of the National Center for Supply Chain Technology Education is to increase the supply of highly qualified supply chain technicians by 20,000 over four years to meet the growing national need across public and private supply chains.  Unlike other NSF-funded projects that focus solely in transportation and materials handling, the National Center will engage strategic partners across the entire supply chain continuum-manufacturing, port operations, transportation (air, rail, truck) distribution, warehousing, information technology and security.

Two Sinclair faculty and staff members will play a major role:

  • Professor Ned Young will serve as a Co-Principal Investigator and manage the activities and budget for Sinclair.
  • Mr. Robert Sheehan, Tech Prep Program Manager of the Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium, will manage the development of high school supply chain management career pathways.

Congratulations are extended to both Ned and Bob for their role in bringing this grant opportunity to Sinclair and to the Miami Valley

Sincerely,
Terry Riley
Interim Director - MVTPC at Sinclair Community College
